I woke up this morning and realised I was a grown up. Then I looked around we and saw that I was wearing grown up clothes and eating a sensible grown up breakfast. Then I found myself doing serious grown up business and handling grown up responsibilities. I cared about grown up issues and had grown up discussions. I listened to grown up music and read grown up books. I had a grown up office and ran a grown up company.
And that's when I realised that I had not changed at all... yet I was an entirely new person. I was a naive fool yet a great thinker. An incompetent failure yet a valuable individual. Oblivious and irrelevant yet profoundly in touch with reality.
Then I realised I hardly knew a thing but felt compelled to pretend I did, and wondered if I was the only one. A grown up and a child all at once.
